On Wednesday December 5th, a morning firebreak of a oil heater in Shin Abad school left it in ashes and made many children, all girls, hospitalized.

In their Milan concert, Sormeh group dedicated this song to those children.

Golnar Shahyar (voc, Percussion) and Mona Matbou Riahi (Clarinet, voc) from Iran as well as Jelena Popržan (Viola, Voc, Loops, Setar) from Serbia have started a promising trio together in which - with an exiting mix from Oriental to Balkan music – have found their cosmopolitan compromises in Jewish music tradition as well as self arranged pieces zested with improvisational parts. Iranian, Jewish, Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek and Sephardic songs, instrumental klezmer and Balkan sparks as well as harmonized lyrics, timeless resembling contemporary Chansons and original compositions, remove the geographical and mental borders. Elegant and mysterious like an oriental collyrium is nothing but the Persian word “Sormeh”.

Mohsen Namjoo and Ensemble /  29 October 2013

Mohsen Namjoo, one of the most controversial contemporary Iranian singer/ songwriters, hailed as “Iran’s Bob Dylan” by the New York Times, will perform with his band in Milan at Teatro Martinitt on Tuesday 29 October 2013.After a successful solo concert in 2012, Mohsen Namjoo will be back in Europe this autumn to promote his new album, Thirteen/Eight, with his band. Mohsen Namjoo has performed internationally in the US, Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany. In 2009, he had concerts in Milan (Sala Verdi, Conservatorio di Milano) and Vencie both organized and promoted by Fabrica, creative laboratory of Benetton. He has been described by the international press as a “Maverick” and “Avante Gard” for his ability to fuse traditional Persian and folk music with jazz, rock and roll and blues, and for using his voice as an instrument in unconventional ways.

PALLETT

"Four Iranian-expatriate musicians living in Brooklyn, New York, have been shot dead in what authorities are labelling a murder-suicide.
Three musicians, two of whom were members of a group called the Yellow Dogs, were slain by a fellow musician who later took his own life. Another man was wounded and taken to hospital."
May they all rest in peace...
